Privacy Policy

Akil Ventures, Inc., a Delaware corporation, operates askakil.ai, AkilNYC public explorers and stories, and the Akil MCP service that connects compatible AI assistants to public records. This policy describes information we receive through these services. Your AI assistant and sign-in provider also have their own privacy policies, which govern information you give them directly.

You can browse public pages without an account. Connecting an AI assistant to Akil requires sign-in. We receive your email address, account identifier, sign-in method, and any name your sign-in provider shares. Our authentication service processes sign-in credentials and session information. We keep connection authorizations, tokens or key records needed to provide and secure access.

Akil receives the tool requests your connected assistant sends, including search text, filters and public-record identifiers, and returns results to that assistant. We do not receive your entire assistant conversation merely because you connect Akil. A tool request may nevertheless contain personal information from that conversation. Do not include passwords, access keys, private documents, or sensitive personal information in research requests. Uploads to your AI assistant are governed by that assistant's policies; the current Akil website does not offer a general file-upload service.

We keep private sign-in and usage records to operate the service, enforce usage limits, investigate failures, prevent abuse and check response quality. Records can include your account ID and email, sign-in time and method, IP address, connecting application details, tool name, submitted arguments, a limited response sample, timing, response size and success or error status. These records are separate from any conversation history held by your AI assistant.

We limit captured text and redact recognizable credentials. Redaction cannot identify every personal detail; tool arguments and samples may still contain names, addresses or other information you submit or request. These records are restricted to authorized administration. Our hosting and authentication providers may also process technical and security logs to deliver and protect the service.

We privately save completed school searches and submitted chat questions, including questions redirected to our MCP connection guide, to improve the explorer and understand what readers want to explore. Records include submitted text, time, selected public filters, result counts or selections, and the chat outcome. For chat requests, we also save the response sent by the chat service, marking interrupted responses as partial and limiting saved answers to 16,000 characters. These records are separate from newsletter subscriptions and accounts.

The school-activity records do not attach visitor names, account emails, IP addresses, cookies, device fingerprints, or persistent visitor identifiers. We remove recognizable email addresses, phone numbers and credential patterns from saved text, but automated redaction cannot identify every personal detail. Please do not enter personal or confidential information. Each record contains the newest submitted question and its response, without copying earlier conversation turns into that activity record. Earlier turns may be sent with a follow-up question to support the active conversation.

Only the site owner can read school-activity records through private administration. They have a rolling 90-day retention period: expired records are excluded from administration and removed by hourly cleanup. Recovery backups may retain deleted records for up to 30 additional days. Collection is best effort; blocked requests, connection failures and abuse limits may prevent recording. Answers from before response storage began cannot be reconstructed.

When school chat uses AI, submitted questions, relevant conversation context and public data are sent to our AI processing provider to generate an answer. Some requests are answered directly from public school data or directed to MCP without an AI call. The visible conversation clears when you reload. This submitted-activity collection is not a recording of your screen or of everything you type.

When you sign up for AkilNYC stories, we privately save your email address, signup time, consent record and the page you signed up from. If you suggest a topic, we keep that submission for editorial review; it is not published automatically. Story subscriptions are separate from Akil accounts and MCP product-email preferences.

Story-email delivery and MCP product marketing emails are currently disabled. Saved story signups await email confirmation before story delivery begins. Signing in or connecting an AI assistant does not require a marketing subscription. If marketing emails are enabled, they will identify the sender, include a valid postal address and provide an unsubscribe method. Unsubscribing stops those marketing messages; essential sign-in or account security messages may still be sent when needed.

We keep consent and suppression records to honor your preferences. Unsubscribing does not automatically remove a topic suggestion or account. Contact us to request removal of signup details or reader submissions.

Our research tools retrieve and organize public records. Public availability does not mean a record is current, complete or free of personal information. Account and activity information is separate from these research datasets.

We use service providers for hosting, authentication, storage, security, email and AI processing. They receive information needed for those functions and may process it in the United States or other countries where they operate. Your chosen AI assistant receives the tool results it requests and handles them under its own policies. External source links and websites also have their own practices.

We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising. We may disclose information when required by law, to respond to valid legal requests, or to protect the service and users from abuse.

We retain account and connection information while needed to provide and secure access. MCP sign-in and tool-activity records currently have no automatic expiry; they remain until reviewed for deletion or addressed through a verified deletion request. The school explorer's 90-day activity rule does not apply to MCP records. Consent and suppression records may be retained to document and honor email choices.

Older account or conversation records from retired features may remain until reviewed or requested for deletion. You can request access, correction, export or deletion by contacting [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity and clarify which records you mean. We aim to respond within 30 days and will explain any applicable legal exception or additional time needed. Security records, required records and backup copies may remain for their applicable retention periods. We cannot delete copies controlled by your AI assistant or other independent providers.

Disconnecting Akil in your assistant stops that connection; it does not itself delete existing account or activity records. For school activity without a visitor identifier, provide approximate time and question details so we can try to locate the record. Please do not email passwords or identity documents unless we have agreed a secure process.

Essential cookies or browser storage support sign-in, sessions, preferences and abuse prevention. Blocking or clearing them can affect those functions. We do not use advertising cookies or session-replay software on the public website. The website serves its font files itself rather than requesting them from Google's font servers. Signing in with a third-party provider or following an external link can still contact that provider.

We use encrypted connections, restricted administrative access and other safeguards appropriate to the information we handle. No service is completely secure. Keep your account and API keys private and contact us if you suspect unauthorized access. We use activity and security records for investigation and abuse prevention.

Akil is a general-audience public-record research service and is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact [email protected] so we can investigate, stop further collection where appropriate and arrange deletion. School datasets describe public institutions; they are not an invitation to submit children's private information.
